Springhill Fact Sheet


1. Springhill is part of Asbury, the 15th largest not-for-profit system of continuing care retirement communities in the United States, operating five communities in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. It offers adults 55-plus a vibrant retirement lifestyle paired with a secure plan for the future.

2. Approximately 325 people age 55-plus live at Springhill.

3. Many of Springhill’s approximately 270 associates work in hospitality-related or health-care positions. Year after year, the turnover rate among health-care associates is well below statewide averages.

4. Springhill generates annual revenues of approximately $14.5 million, which includes earnings on investments as well as contributions and fees generated from residents.

5. Springhill is the only nationally accredited continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in northwestern Pennsylvania.

6. Construction at Springhill started in 1989 by the Hamot Health Foundation. At the time, Springhill was the second largest construction project in Erie County since World War II, behind the Millcreek Mall.  In 2001, a substantial bequest from a resident led to the addition of a new community room for entertainment, a café and fitness center. That same year, Springhill was acquired by Asbury.

7. Residents of Springhill have access to the Asbury Foundation’s Benevolent Care program, which provides support for residents who deplete their financial resources through no fault of their own. Since its founding, Springhill has never asked a resident to leave due to inability to pay.

8. The campus includes 124 apartment homes, 36 garden homes, 33 personal care suites, 60 skilled care suites, and 20 memory support suites, both private and shared.

9. Springhill’s residential living options include seven floor plans with a wide range of prices and entrance fees. All residences offer maintenance-free living.

10. The 24-hour skilled care center is Medicare- and Medicaid-certified, with priority access for Springhill residents and direct admission available to those coming from area hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

11. Springhill’s CHOICEPlus offers licensed home care and supportive services to residents in their homes. Assistance is available on an ongoing basis or for short-term care after surgery, illness or as respite to relieve a caregiver.

12. Less than 10 minutes from Lake Erie, Springhill is located on 45 wooded acres with walkways and trails spanning the property, a pond, outdoor gardens and greenhouse. Other amenities include a library, full-service restaurant, café with outdoor dining patio, computer lab, two privately operated salons, community room, fitness center and underground parking garage.

13. All Asbury  campuses utilize the HealthAbility lifestyle program, where residents work with associates to develop a plan based on six components of wellness — physical, intellectual, spiritual, vocational, emotional and social.
