Holiday Extravaganza Benefits Erie City Mission
On December 11, residents and associates filled Springhill’s community room with the spirit of community service as they kicked off plans for a holiday dinner and donation drive to benefit the Erie City Mission.
This December 21st event will include preparing and serving a full Christmas dinner, providing and decorating 600 bags of Christmas cookies, a resident choir singing Christmas carols (complete with Santa Claus), a drive for toiletries, clothing and other supplies needed at the mission, and the delivery of blankets made by Springhill’s knitting club.
In a room decorated for the season, Springhill Executive Director Jim Schneider spoke for several minutes before introducing Erie City's Rev. Rick Crocker, who spoke of the mission's need for services. After his presentation, members of the Springhill Associate Choir performed a few numbers they plan to sing during the event . Everyone then enjoyed hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and peppermint and bags of cookies were handed out to all to take with them.
“Season of Caring” is part of an ongoing partnership between Springhill, Sodexo Dining Services and Erie City Mission that began in June and continued in September when staff donated, prepared and served dinner at the shelter and offered consulting services on the mission’s ongoing expansion project.
